Sad news – Pete Gurd

It is with great sadness that we have to advise of the death of Pete Gurd yesterday. He died at home with his family beside him. Pete had been suffering from cancer for the last year.

Pete had been a member of Five Rivers for a many years. He was a Life Member of Five Rivers. Pete was a keen bowler and, since his decision last year to stop bowling, many teams have felt the loss of his presence and experience over the past year. It was never too much trouble for Pete to help wherever and whenever he could.

He had held various offices within the club, with the most recent being Membership Secretary and President. His attendance on recruitment events was a key part of introducing new bowlers to the sport. Pete’s unfailing good humour and positive outlook on life made him a very popular person.

Pete was also a longstanding member at Wilton, where he had held the positions of President and  Captain. With his wife, Sue, he looked after the gardens at Wilton. He also looked after the Wilton logo on the outside wall of the clubhouse, painting it every year to keep it looking smart.

A man of many talents who will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sue and his family at this time.

No details as yet for funeral arrangements.
